She zipped her parka to the top and secured her hood. The digital thermometer clipped
to her belt blinked red: -48°C. Her breath crystallized the moment it left her lips, hanging
in the still air like ghosts fleeing her mouth. Somewhere beneath the miles of ice, a
seismic anomaly had triggered a tremor—small, but deep. It had knocked the outer
satellite tower off its axis and silenced their only reliable connection to the outside world.
Of course, the others hadn’t noticed. Not yet.
